Remove all conditions, set the desired goods to everything you want to dump, then set to take from Stockpile P above. Next, set up a new route, with a single stop defined at 'S' above. #PPP# P = Stockpile, set to just the items you want to dump #S# S = Constructed stop, set to dump North I'm not clear on what will happen when I kill a giant olm and it comes in in pieces, but I'll deal with that if it turns out that it wants to drop butcherable olm fragments down the chute.Ī simpler setup, which I have for all of my workshops: # = wall

Refuse goes in there from my butcher shop or the trap hall, and eventually it goes in the cart, and eventually it goes down the chute, and I don't have to dick with anything to make this happen. The constructed track stop is set to dump to the east, and the cart is told to go back to the collection stop when it's empty. This is key, and something that doesn't seem to be emphasized, amidst the stories of everything that can cause incredible havoc (intentional or otherwise). I do not believe that a guided cart will kill anyone, and it can also run right over stuff that's on the ground without causing trouble. Movement between stops is done via guiding, not pushing or riding or rollers or anything. The cart picks up everything stored in the refuse dump, with the exception that I will have it pick up very few kinds of corpses, because I don't want giant olms going down the chute and I do want goblins going down there. The collection stop is set to move the cart every 7 days or when the cart is 25% full. The room doesn't have to be this big I think, but okay. The refuse dump can have anything in it (mine does not have bones, hair, etc., nor does it have unrotten skin). This is just a room with a refuse dump in it, with track leading from someplace in the room (I chose the center), to a constructed track stop that is orthogonally adjacent to the magma chute.

I looked into mine carts and discovered I could automate this system without devoting a season of dwarf labor (and my attention) in order to build it. Of course, so does a bunch of dumped rock if I'm not careful, so I have to micro a little, which is annoying.

I put a garbage dump zone over the magma chute, then wait for the refuse stockpile to get sufficiently full and/or ripe, then d-b-d all the stuff, and down the chute it goes. The way I have done disposal systems in the past, I dig a pit to magma, then make a refuse stockpile that is both near the pit and near places that are likely to generate a lot of trash (bits of dead stuff), like the butchering area and the trap hall. My forts are about dwarfs making stuff - invaders I just kill, then I get pissed off because there are socks and teeth everywhere. I know, it's fun, but I don't do my forts like that. I have been looking at various tutorials and threads about mine carts, and they are all either very opaque and non-practical, or use them in things so complicated that they may as well be megaprojects, and what is the point of throwing 1200 gold bars at trolls when I can just send a squad out there to paint the walls with their blood? I do my forts the way I do my forts, and the world can go die, so when Toady adds something that I can't see a point to, I don't use it, because I'm trying to perfect the way I do my fort the way I do it.
